UMPSA Academic Staff Strengthens Expertise at National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan

Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to strengthen the internationalization and professional development agenda of academic staff through participation in the Academic Attachment Program for the Purpose of Improving Competence at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Taiwan on 20 – 24 April 2026. This program was attended by a representative from the Center for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), Associate Professor Dr. Zulkhibri Ismail @ Mustofa, and was implemented under the Special Provision for the Implementation of the Vice-Chancellor's Mandate KPI for 2025.

During his time at NTHU, Associate Professor. Dr. Zulkhibri was placed in the Department of Mathematics and also held a discussion session with the Institute of Statistics & Data Sciences and the Institute of Computational & Modelling Science. The discussion focused on the potential for academic collaboration, research, exchange of expertise, joint publications and the development of collaborative programs between the two institutions.

NTHU, ranked 176th in the QS World University Rankings 2026, is one of the leading research universities in Taiwan and Asia, renowned for its research in science, engineering, technology, mathematics and computer science. Re-established in Hsinchu in 1956, the university has close ties to Taiwan’s high-tech industry through its proximity to Hsinchu Science Park.

NTHU’s Department of Mathematics has a strong history in the development of modern mathematics in Taiwan since 1962, while the Institute of Statistics & Data Sciences is renowned for its excellence in statistics and data science, ranking in the world’s Top 100 for statistics according to the QS World University Rankings. Meanwhile, the Institute of Computational & Modelling Science (ICMS) focuses on computational science, mathematical modelling and high performance computing (HPC) to support multidisciplinary research and artificial intelligence (AI) applications.

Throughout the program, several key activities were carried out, including presentation sessions on UMPSA and PSM, bilateral discussions with NTHU academic management, and academic tours of the university’s campus and research facilities. This program also opens up a space for the exchange of ideas related to technology-based pedagogy, curriculum development, research and innovation. As a result of this linkage program, several potential strategic collaborations in the academic and research fields have been successfully identified. It is hoped that the experience and exposure gained can be utilized in strengthening the quality of teaching, research and innovation at PSM, thus supporting UMPSA's aspirations to continue to grow as a leading technological university at the global level.
