Centre for Mathematical Sciences, UMPSA Enhances Early STEM Learning Through Kangaroo Mathematics Workshops

The Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah has successfully conducted a five-part workshop series aimed at preparing primary school students for the upcoming Kangaroo Mathematics Competition 2026.

The sessions, held on 4 March, 11 March, 1 April, 8 April and 15 April, involved 50 pupils from Sekolah Kebangsaan Tok Sera, Kuantan. The competition is scheduled to take place on 22 April. Participants were grouped according to their categories: Pre-Ecolier (Year 1–2), Ecolier (Year 3–4) and Benjamin (Year 5–6).

A total of 27 trainers from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) guided the pupils throughout the programme, focusing on problem-solving techniques, logical reasoning and strategies suited to the format of the international competition.

The final session also saw a certificate of collaboration exchanged between CMS and SK Tok Sera, marking closer cooperation between the university and the school. The document was signed by CMS dean Associate Professor Dr Mohd Sham Mohamad and SK Tok Sera headmaster Masturainy Mohamed Taha. The initiative is part of UMPSA’s efforts to strengthen interest in mathematics and support early STEM education among school students.
