ThinkMath Talks 1/2026
On 27 February 2026, the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), in collaboration with Hebei University (HBU), China, successfully organized ThinkMath Talks (TMT) 1/2026. This event marks the rebranding of the former Monthly Mathematical Colloquium (MMC), reflecting the Centre’s renewed commitment to fostering dynamic and internationally connected mathematical discourse.
The session featured three engaging presentations spanning applied mathematics, machine learning, and mathematical modelling, demonstrating the breadth of research expertise within the Centre. The programme commenced with a presentation by Master’s student Mohamad Riduan Bin Hashim, supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zulkhibri Ismail @ Mustofa. His talk, “Analytical Solution of Rotating MHD Casson Fluid Flow in Moving Vertical Channel with the Effect of Suction: Centrifugal Pump,” explored advanced analytical techniques in fluid dynamics, contributing to applied mathematics and engineering applications.

The session continued with a presentation by Dr. Noraini Binti Ibrahim, Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences. Her research, entitled “Improved Least Squares Support Vector Machine for Johor River Flow Forecasting During Structural Break,” demonstrated how machine learning methods can enhance hydrological forecasting under complex structural changes. The final session featured Dr. Tay Chai Jian, who presented “Regime Shift in Lake Water Quality: A Bifurcation Perspective for Effective Lake Management.” Her work highlighted the role of mathematical modelling in understanding environmental dynamics and supporting sustainable ecosystem management.

The event attracted academics from Hebei University, alongside lecturers and postgraduate students from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, further strengthening international academic collaboration and cross-border knowledge exchange. The Centre for Mathematical Sciences extends its sincere appreciation to all speakers and participants for their active engagement. ThinkMath Talks continues to serve as an international platform that welcomes researchers to share innovative work in mathematics, statistics, and related fields.
