Seronoknya Matematik: Making Maths Fun and Accessible for Students
Hits: 96
On 8 November 2024, the 'Seronoknya Matematik' programme brought lots of excitement to Sekolah Kebangsaan Pandan (SoPAN) in Kuantan, Pahang. Hosted by PSM UMPSA, and funded by the Professor Turun Padang (PTP) grant from Jabatan Jaringan Industri & Masyarakat, UMPSA, the programme had strong support from Yakult (M) Sdn Bhd, Angkatan Belia Malaysia (Pahang), and the PIBG of SoPAN. About 50 Level 2 students from Years 4, 5, and 6 at SoPAN took part, along with 20 stakeholders who joined in the fun.
The main goal was to help students get a better grasp of essential maths concepts, including numbers, basic operations, rounding, and sequences. To make it engaging, we included a module on "deserted island survival," where students used maths skills like basic operations, measurement, and percentages in creative scenarios.
Leading the PTP programme, Dr. Amirul Aizad shared that the activities weren’t just about maths—they encouraged creativity, artistry, and entrepreneurship, along with awareness of recycling and tech in STEM. At the end of the module, the students even created a video to showcase what they’d learned. The day wrapped up with a formal agreement between SoPAN and PSM, UMPSA, sealing a commitment to future collaboration.
Overall, the Maths Explorer programme was a win—not only boosting students’ maths skills but also strengthening their sense of teamwork. Here’s hoping this programme continues and keeps bringing even more benefits to students in the future.
