PSM UMPSA organizes Scratch Workshop for primary school students around Kuantan

GAMBANG, 29th July 2026 - The Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), UMPSA, successfully organized the Scratch Learning Module Testing Workshop for Programming Skills among Kuantan District Primary School Students at the Mathematics Laboratory, Block M, UMPSA. Organized in collaboration with the Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah (PPD) Kuantan and Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri (JPN) Pahang, the workshop brought together 108 students from Grades 4 to 6 alongside accompanying teachers representing 36 primary schools.

Beyond serving as a data collection platform for the Community Development and Knowledge Transfer Social Innovation Grant (CDU), the workshop functioned as a testing ground for a newly developed Malay-language Scratch Module. Specially designed to enhance comprehension among primary school pupils, this national language-based module directly supports the Scratch programming component within the Reka Bentuk dan Teknologi (RBT) syllabus.

Throughout the workshop, students were introduced to the fundamentals of Scratch programming before receiving step-by-step guidance to create interactive games, animations, and stories. Top-scoring innovative projects were evaluated and rewarded with hampers. Additionally, an online quiz was held to test students' comprehension, with top performers receiving souvenir prizes sponsored by PSM UMPSA.

To strengthen support within the local educational ecosystem, accompanying teachers participated in a parallel session titled "Empowering Primary School STEM Education in Kuantan District." Survey forms were distributed to gather valuable teacher feedback to shape more impactful STEM initiatives moving forward.

Participants expressed immense enthusiasm, voicing hopes for advanced follow-up workshops in the future. PSM UMPSA remains committed to sustaining this collaborative partnership to continuously advance STEM education in step with modern technological trends.
