PSM UMPSA Holds Workshop on AI Application and Values-Based Education (VBE)
The Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) on 20 August 2026 held the Academic Empowerment Workshop: AI Application and Values-Based Education (VBE). The day-long workshop was held physically at the Mathematics Support Centre (MSc), Block W and streamed online via Google Meet, with the participation of academic staff, administrative staff and postgraduate students of PSM.
Session 1 titled “AI for Research for Postgraduate Students,” delivered by Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Norazaliza Mohd Jamil, was targeted at postgraduate students. The session exposed postgraduate students to the effective use of AI in searching for journal references, as well as the use of AI with the UMPSA Thesis template.
Following a morning tea break, Session 2, “AI as Your Workplace Co-Pilot,” delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norhayati Rosli, focused on academic and administrative staff. Through this session, administrative staff were equipped to manage daily tasks more systematically and efficiently through the use of AI tools, particularly in document management, scheduling, and preparing meeting minutes, while academic staff were introduced to applying AI in teaching and learning, including preparing teaching materials, assessment, and designing more interactive and efficient learning activities.
The workshop resumed in the afternoon with Session 3, “Navigating the New Landscape of Higher Education: Understanding MQA Requirements for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Values-Based Education (VBE).” This session provided guidance on implementing VBE, ensuring academic staff understand the proper methods to embed core values such as integrity and ethics into existing curriculum structures.
Through this workshop, PSM hopes to equip its academic and administrative community with responsible AI knowledge and skills, fostering an innovative, ethical and sustainable culture of knowledge in line with UMPSA's aspirations in the era of digital transformation in higher education. In addition, exposure to the concept of VBE is hoped to help staff understand how its implementation can be applied in the learning process.
