WORK-BASED LEARNING (WBL) WORKSHOP WITH INDUSTRY COACHES FOR THE BACHELOR OF APPLIED SCIENCE IN DATA ANALYTICS WITH HONOURS, CENTRE FOR MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES, 2026
On 22 August 2026, the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), successfully organised the Work-Based Learning (WBL) Workshop with Industry Coaches at UMPSA Kuala Lumpur.
The workshop was organised as part of the preparation for the WBL placement of students from the Bachelor of Applied Science in Data Analytics with Honours programme. It provided a platform for Academic Tutors, Industry Coaches and industry representatives to discuss and coordinate the implementation of WBL before the students begin their placement in industry.
The workshop aimed to strengthen the understanding and collaboration between the university and industry partners, particularly regarding the implementation of WBL, the roles and responsibilities of Academic Tutors and Industry Coaches, student assessment procedures, the implementation of the Data Science Project and elective courses, as well as matters related to students' learning and development throughout their WBL placement.
During the workshop, participants were briefed on the overall WBL implementation and subsequently participated in parallel discussion sessions between Academic Tutors and Industry Coaches. These sessions provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss the proposed student activities, suitable projects and tasks, expected learning outcomes, assessment requirements and other matters related to the implementation of WBL within the respective industries.
The workshop also served as an important platform for coordinating the student interview and placement process, with industry representatives reviewing the students identified for interviews and discussing the subsequent placement arrangements.
The Centre for Mathematical Sciences greatly appreciates the commitment and continuous support of all Industry Coaches and industry representatives who participated in the workshop. Their involvement is essential in providing students with meaningful industry exposure and ensuring that the WBL experience effectively integrates academic learning with real-world data analytics practices.
Through this collaboration between UMPSA and its industry partners, it is hoped that the students will gain valuable professional experience, strengthen their technical and interpersonal competencies, and be better prepared to meet the needs and expectations of the industry when they commence their WBL placement in 2027.
