Mission Phi: Unleashing Mathematical Brilliance at MRSM Tun Abdul Razak

PEKAN, 2 July 2026 – Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yuhani binti Yusof, a team of ten dedicated facilitators from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM) at UMPSA successfully conducted 'Mission Phi' for 130 Form 5 students from MRSM Tun Abdul Razak (MRSM TAR). Through this exclusive invitation, the PSM team served as guest speakers and facilitators for the Mathematics Development Programme 2026, hosted by the Mathematics Department of MRSM TAR.

The primary aim of this engaging slot was to revolutionise mathematics education by seamlessly blending the Form 4 and Form 5 Mathematics and Additional Mathematics syllabuses into interactive, physical challenges. During the three-hour event, the students were divided into 13 groups to navigate five distinct stations. These activities brilliantly transformed abstract concepts into tangible tasks:

  • Station 1 (Math Escape Code): Students solved algebraic equations to discover hidden codes.
  • Station 2 (Maze Angles): Participants creatively combined trigonometry with physical navigation while blindfolded.
  • Station 3 (Bowling Statistics): Students applied statistical concepts like the mean, median, and mode through a pétanque-style game.
  • Station 4 (Mod Puzzle): Critical thinking was challenged using coordinates, base-2 numbering, and tangrams.
  • Station 5 (Performance): Teams performed a creative mathematical cheer integrating the tangrams they collected.

Ultimately, the students gained far more than mathematical proficiency; they actively developed positive attitudes, effective communication, and strong leadership skills. The successful programme concluded with the presentation of a Certificate of Collaboration, cementing a strategic academic partnership between PSM, UMPSA, and the Mathematics Department of MRSM TAR.
