On 11 September 2024, three lecturers from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), UMPSA successfully conducted training session for the International Mathematical Olympiad National Selection Test (IMONST) for eight outstanding students from Maahad Tahfiz Negeri Pahang, Kuantan.
IMONST is a competition run by the Malaysia International Malaysia Olympiad Committee to promote the interest of mathematics and problem solving among Malaysians. It is an individual online competition that is open to all everywhere: from primary school to pre-U students. As the name suggests, this is also a selection test to seek out talents to represent the country in various international mathematical competitions.
Therefore, this training aimed to prepare the students for the rigorous demands of the IMOST, which serves as a gateway to the prestigious International Mathematical Olympiad. The lecturers focused on advanced problem-solving techniques, critical thinking, and mathematical strategies necessary for success in the competition. This initiative highlights the commitment of both the PSM and teachers from Maahad Tahfiz Negeri Pahang to fostering mathematical excellence and nurturing young talent on the global stage.
