In an exciting initiative to enhance mathematics education, students from the Foundation in Science and Technology (AST), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) have introduced an innovative life-size indoor math game at SK Fakeh Abd Samad. This creative project, designed to spark students' interest in mathematics, is part of the AST students' fulfillment for their UHQ1012 course. The program aligns with UMPSA's "Profesor Turun Padang" initiative, which aims to bring academic expertise and innovative teaching methods directly to local communities.
The game, set up in the school's compound, transforms abstract mathematical concepts into tangible, interactive experiences. It features oversized game boards, colorful props, and engaging puzzles that require students to apply various mathematical skills to progress. By incorporating physical movement and teamwork into problem-solving, the game aims to make learning math more enjoyable and accessible to students of all skill levels.
The school's headmaster, Mr. Bahar Nizam bin Haji Baharudin expressed his gratitude to Prof Dr Mohd Zuki bin Salleh during the dean’s visit to the school for the initiative and hope to continue collaborating with UMPSA by offering these kinds of activities to maintain and grow the students' interest in mathematics.
The game covers a range of mathematical concepts appropriate for different grade levels, allowing the AST students to tailor the experience to the school's curriculum. Participants navigate through various "math zones," each focusing on different areas such as arithmetic, geometry, and problem-solving.
This project does not only benefits the primary school students but also provides valuable experience for the AST students from UMPSA, allowing them to apply their knowledge in a real-world educational setting as part of their university coursework.
