AST Students Of The 2024/2025 Cohort Participate In Hari Penasihatan Akademik

Hari Penasihatan Akademik is one of the main initiatives designed to be implemented by the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) for students of Foundation in Science and Technology Program (AST) for the Academic Session 2024/2025. This program aims to strengthen the relationship between students and academic advisors, as well as provide structured guidance to help students adjust to academic life at the university. Additionally, it serves as an important platform to build strong bonds among the students themselves.

A total of 79 students registered for the AST program for Academic Session of 20242025 where each student will be mentored by one of the 8 academic advisors appointed from among the lecturers at PSM. Academic advisors play a crucial role in ensuring that each student receives the necessary academic guidance, carefully plans their courses, and serves as a reference for any issues that may arise during their studies at UMPSA at the foundation program level.

This program is designed not only to provide academic guidance but also to strengthen the bonds of kinship between students and academic advisors. This is important because academic advisors are not only responsible for academic matters but also for providing moral support and relevant advice regarding campus life. The program also provides opportunities for academic advisors to understand each student's background, enabling them to offer more tailored advice based on individual circumstances.

Moreover, this event provides a platform for students to get to know each other. Through various planned activities, students are given the space to interact in a more relaxed and informal manner, which fosters camaraderie and collaboration. This is essential in creating a harmonious and supportive learning environment.

The activities throughout the program began with an aerobic exercise session that was also attended by PSM staff. A message from the Dean of PSM, Prof. Dr. Mohd Zuki Salleh, was delivered before breakfast was served. Participants then engaged in ice-breaking activities, taaruf, and several group activities aimed at strengthening the bonds among participants. In the afternoon, a sharing session regarding the dual degree program was also held. The presence of a Flying Professor from HKA, Germany, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans Werner Dorschner, who shared information about studying in Germany, somewhat inspired the students to strive for the best results during their foundation studies to secure a place in the dual degree program with universities in Germany. Also present at the session were Dr. Mohd Jamil bin Mohamed Mokhtarudin, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Ngui Wai Keng, Dr. Lim Kar Sing, and Mr. Zahiruddin bin Mohd Zain.

Overall, Hari Penasihatan Akademik is hoped to have a significant impact on AST students. Through this program, students are expected to not only have a clearer understanding of their academic direction but also gain confidence in their respective academic advisors. Additionally, good relationships among students can support their academic success in the future.
