Workshop on Improving Work Based Learning (WBL) Assessments with Academic Tutors for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Data Analytics with Honours Programme

On 7 August 2025, PSM UMPSA successfully organised the Workshop on Improving WBL Assessments with Academic Tutors for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Data Analytics with Honours (MQA/FA 12425). Held at the Mathematics Support Centre, the workshop brought together data analytics academic staff serving as Academic Tutors for the programme.

On 7 August 2025, the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) successfully organised the Workshop on Improving Work Based Learning (WBL) Assessments with Academic Tutors for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Data Analytics with Honours (MQA/FA 12425). Held at the Mathematics Support Centre, the workshop brought together data analytics academic staff serving as Academic Tutors for the programme. The session aimed to review and improve assessment rubrics, clarify the roles and responsibilities of Academic Tutors, and strengthen the overall Guideline for WBL Assessments beginning with the Cohort 2023 intake. The Bachelor of Applied Science in Data Analytics with Honours programme adopts the 2u2i mode, requiring students to undergo a minimum of one year of Work Based Learning (WBL) placement at selected industries. To date, four cohorts have completed or are undergoing their WBL placements, involving partnerships with over 19 industries. The workshop focused on reviewing assessment rubrics for key WBL components including: Data Science Project II (DSP II), led by Dr. Wan Nur Syahidah binti Wan Yusoff (DSP Coordinator) Elective Courses, Dr. Adam Shariff bin Adli Aminuddin (Head of Programme, Data Analytics) Industrial Training, by Dr. Sahimel Azwal bin Sulaiman (Industrial Training Coordinator) Additionally, Dr. Mohd Khairul Bazli bin Mohd Aziz (WBL Committee) provided a briefing on the upcoming WBL Workshop with Industry Coach 2025, ensuring alignment between academic and industry expectations. The outcomes of the workshop will guide the improvement of assessment rubrics and workflow processes. By engaging Academic Tutors in this review discussion, PSM strengthens its assurance that WBL assessments remain comprehensive, relevant, and supportive of student development. PSM remains committed to continuous improvement in the design and delivery of its WBL structure, ensuring that students are well-prepared for real-world challenges while upholding academic excellence.
