UMPSA Team's Innovative AI-Enabled Energy Prediction Project Wins Gold Medal at i-RITEC2023

A team from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) participated in the Research & Innovative Technology Competition (i-RITEC2023) hosted by the Faculty of Engineering Technology at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) from September 20th to 25th, 2023. The team, led by Dr. Chuan Zun Liang from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, included three members: Kueh Fuk Chen (3rd-year student from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences), Tham Ren Sheng (1st-year student from the Faculty of Industrial Management), and David Lau King Luen (2nd-year student from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences). They presented their project titled "AI-Enabled Energy Prediction: Unlocking Insights in Sparse Dataset Annual Consumption Predictions" in the fundamental category.

Their project was unique as it introduced a novel stacked AI (SLR-SVR) non-time series algorithm for accurate non-linear electricity consumption prediction in Malaysia. They utilized the Cross Industry Standard Process for Data Mining (CRISP-DM) data science methodology. Notably, this was the first time such a stacked AI-based algorithm was proposed in Malaysia, and it was not found in global research publications. The algorithm was capable of forecasting time-series datasets. The team's participation in the competition enriched their knowledge in the field of data science and honed various skills, including teamwork, communication, time management, and technical abilities.
