PSM UMPSA Organises SULAM Programme “The Power of Data Science” at SMK Abdul Rahman Talib
The Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), successfully organised a SULAM programme titled “The Power of Data Science” on 15 January 2026 at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Abdul Rahman Talib, Kuantan.
The programme was conducted under the course BSD1313 – Introduction to Data Science and led by Dr. Mohd Khairul Bazli bin Mohd Aziz as the Project Leader. The initiative received official approval from the Office of the Senior Director (Strategy & Academic Development) as part of UMPSA’s continuous commitment to service-learning and community engagement.
A total of 67 Bachelor of Applied Science in Data Analytics with Honours students from UMPSA and 205 Form 4 SMART students and 3 teachers from SMK Abdul Rahman Talib took part in the programme. Through this initiative, university students shared their knowledge and provided early exposure to secondary school students on the importance of data science in today’s digital era.
A variety of engaging, data-themed activities were conducted throughout the programme to enhance students’ interest and understanding of data science. These activities are also expected to further spark students’ interest in the field of STEM, encouraging them to explore future pathways in science and technology.
The programme was further honoured by the presence of Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Sham bin Mohamad, Dean of the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), and Dr. Adam Shariff bin Adli Aminuddin, Head of the Department of Data Analytics. The event was also graced by the school principal, Puan Juwita binti Jamaludin, together with Puan Rohana binti Amin, a Physics teacher, and Puan Zamiyah binti Ali, a Living Skills (Kemahiran Hidup) teacher.
The successful organisation of this SULAM programme reflects UMPSA’s role as a community-oriented university that is committed to nurturing holistic graduates while contributing meaningfully to educational development at the grassroots level.
