PSM UMPSA conducted Basic Occupational First Aid (BOFA) Course and Training 2024

The Occupational Safety and Health Committee (OSHC) at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences organized a Basic Occupational First Aid (BOFA) course and training on October 18, 2024, at ZDK04, Block Z, UMPSA Gambang. The course took place from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM, with 34 participants from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences. The invited speaker was Ts. Dr. Azizan bin Ramli, a Certified BOFA trainer and the Deputy Dean of Research & Postgraduate Studies from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FIST), UMPSA.
The BOFA training was designed and conducted according to the Guidelines on First Aid in the Workplace (2nd Edition), 2004, and the OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT 1994 (ACT 514) PART VII SECTION 30 (1).
The participants were taught basic life support skills such as CPR and choking, as well as other first aid topics like bleeding and wounds, burns and scalds, fractures, and spinal injuries. The course included theory presentations, practical sessions, and life-like simulations (casualty make-up) to equip participants with not only knowledge but also the skills to handle various emergencies.
After the course, participants were able to become first responders at the workplace, save lives, properly rescue victims, identify necessary items for a workplace first aid program, and act quickly, calmly, and correctly in accordance with legal provisions.
