PSM Strategic Industry Nexus (SINNEX) 2026 Strengthens Academia–Industry Collaboration
GAMBANG, 30 July 2026 – The Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), successfully organised the PSM Strategic Industry Nexus (SINNEX) 2026, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration between academia and industry through knowledge exchange and discussions on future partnerships.
The programme was officially officiated by Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Sham Mohammad, Dean of the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, who highlighted the importance of fostering strong university–industry engagement in driving innovation, enhancing graduate employability, and addressing real-world challenges through interdisciplinary research and data-driven solutions. In his officiating address, he emphasised that sustainable partnerships between academia and industry are essential to ensuring that research outcomes remain relevant and impactful while contributing to national development.
The programme also featured a special briefing by Associate Professor Dr. Doh Shu Ing, Director of the Centre for Industry Relations, Department of Research and Innovation, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA). During the session, he shared insights into UMPSA's industry engagement initiatives and highlighted various collaboration opportunities available to industry partners, including research partnerships, consultancy, talent development, and strategic university–industry programmes.
SINNEX 2026 served as a strategic platform for meaningful engagement between PSM academics and industry representatives, focusing on identifying long-term collaboration opportunities that would benefit both academia and industry while supporting innovation, research excellence, and workforce development.
The discussion covered several key areas, including collaborative research, grant opportunities, professional training, consultancy services, corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, student internships, and Work-Based Learning (WBL). Participants exchanged perspectives on current industry challenges, organisational needs, and areas where academic expertise could contribute towards practical and sustainable solutions.
Industry representatives participating in the programme included Kaneka (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., Tanah Makmur Berhad, Pahang Mining Corporation Sdn. Bhd., Jabatan Perhutanan Negeri Pahang, Nestratum Technologies Sdn. Bhd., Strateq Group, Strateq Systems Sdn. Bhd., and Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Pahang (Unit Entomologi dan Pest).
Overall, PSM SINNEX 2026 successfully strengthened engagement between the Centre for Mathematical Sciences and its industry stakeholders, paving the way for future collaborative research projects, consultancy initiatives, talent development programmes, student placements, and sustainable strategic partnerships. The programme reflects PSM's ongoing commitment to bridging academia and industry in creating innovative, impactful, and future-ready solutions that contribute to both academic excellence and industrial advancement.
