PSM Conducts Mathematics Workshop at Maahad Tahfiz Negeri Pahang (MTNP)
Kuantan, 3 September 2025 – The Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), successfully conducted a Mathematics Workshop at Maahad Tahfiz Negeri Pahang (MTNP) as part of the school’s preparation for the International Mathematical Olympiad National Selection Test (IMONST) 2025. The two-hour session, held from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., brought together selected students who are being trained for high-level mathematical problem-solving. The workshop aimed to strengthen students’ analytical skills, introduce effective strategies, and familiarise them with the nature of Olympiad-standard questions.

The workshop was facilitated by five lecturers from PSM, PM Dr Mohd Sham Mohamad, Dr Adam Shariff Adli Aminuddin, Dr Noratikah Abu, Dr Amirul Aizad Ahmad Fuad, and Dr Sahimel Azwal Sulaiman. Throughout the session, students engaged in guided exploration of challenging mathematical problems, participated in collaborative tasks, and received step-by-step coaching on solving non-routine questions. The interactive approach enabled students to discuss ideas openly, refine their reasoning, and gain deeper insights into competition-style mathematics.
Students and teachers responded positively to the workshop, citing clearer understanding, increased confidence, and improved readiness for IMONST 2025. The active engagement shown by the participants demonstrated the value of hands-on mathematical training in developing problem-solving resilience. This workshop reflects PSM’s ongoing commitment to supporting schools across Pahang through high-impact outreach activities and to nurturing young mathematical talent capable of excelling at the national and international levels.
