On 19th March 2025, Foundation in Science and Technology students joined the “MUET Marvel: Your Ultimate Guide to Band Excellent!” workshop conducted by lecturers from Centre for Modern Languages, Madam Nor Suhardiliana Binti Sahar and Madam Noor Azlinda Binti Zainal Abidin at Dewan Tun Teja, UMPSA Gambang. This MUET (Malaysian University English Test) workshop is designed to help students improve their English proficiency and prepare for the MUET exam.
On 19th March 2025, Foundation in Science and Technology students joined the “MUET Marvel: Your Ultimate Guide to Band Excellent!” workshop conducted by lecturers from Centre for Modern Languages, Madam Nor Suhardiliana Binti Sahar and Madam Noor Azlinda Binti Zainal Abidin at Dewan Tun Teja, UMPSA Gambang. This MUET (Malaysian University English Test) workshop is designed to help students improve their English proficiency and prepare for the MUET exam. This workshop covers all four components of the test: reading, listening, and writing at the first slot in the morning, and speaking at the second slot in the afternoon. MUET workshops also include mock tests, interactive exercises, and personalized feedback from speakers. It is beneficial for students who aim to achieve a higher band score for university admissions in degree programs or career advancement. Tips on structuring essays, summarizing information, and improving grammar and vocabulary also have been given in the writing slot. Meanwhile for the second slot, Madam Noor Azlinda gives techniques to enhance fluency, pronunciation, and confidence in group discussions and individual presentations for speaking tests. The workshop ended at 5pm. In the first slot, Madam Nor Suhardiliana starts with the briefing for the reading and listening test. In the reading test, the speaker focuses on methods to improve comprehension, skimming, scanning, and answering different types of questions effectively. She also gives some strategies to understand spoken English, practice with sample audio recordings, and improve note-taking skills in listening tests. Author: Dr Farahanim Misni
