MATHELITES to the World III: 19 PSM Students Embark on Academic Mobility to China
BAODING, CHINA, 26 August 2026 – A total of 19 Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics (BSD) students from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), participated in MATHELITES to the World III: China, an international mobility programme held at Hebei University, China, from 14 to 26 August 2026.
All 19 students received full sponsorship under the Chinese Government Scholarship to participate in the 2026 International Summer School Program hosted by Hebei University. The initiative, organised through the Mathematics Students Association (MATHELITES), aimed to broaden students' academic knowledge, enhance international exposure and promote cross-cultural learning.
Throughout the programme, students attended academic sessions conducted by lecturers from Hebei University's School of Mathematics and Information Science. The sessions covered advanced topics in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computer Science, including Matrix Spectral Analysis, Singular Value Decomposition, Support Vector Machines, Deep Learning using PyTorch, Metric Learning and applications of Large Language Models in Knowledge Graphs.
Beyond academic activities, students experienced Chinese culture through hands-on activities such as traditional paper-cutting, calligraphy, Chinese knotting, Chinese food culture and martial arts. These activities provided opportunities for cultural exchange and interaction with international participants.
The UMPSA delegation was accompanied by Dr. Amirul Aizad Ahmad Fuad and Dr. Tay Chai Jian, both lecturers from PSM. The programme concluded on 26 August 2026, with Dr. Amirul delivering a closing speech on behalf of UMPSA and expressing appreciation to Hebei University for hosting the programme.
The international mobility programme provided valuable opportunities for PSM students to broaden their academic perspectives, develop intercultural competencies and establish international connections. It also opened avenues for future academic exchanges and potential research collaborations between UMPSA and Hebei University.
