Integrating Generative AI & CANVA in Problem-Vased Learning Strategy for Academics

On 26–27 June 2025, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), in collaboration with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), organised the “Integrating Generative AI & Canva in Problem-Based Learning Strategy for Academics” workshop at Dewan Tun Fatimah, UMPSA, Kuantan. This two-day event was part of a research project titled “Enhancing Higher Education Pedagogy through Generative AI and Design Tools: A Study on Professional Development and CPBL Strategies,” funded under the University Research Grant (URG-2024-015) by UBD.

The workshop brought together 40 participants from UMPSA, IIUM, UiTM Pahang, UiTM Jengka, TAR UMT, KKTM Kuantan, IPGM Batu Pahat, Politeknik Muadzam Shah, and Politeknik Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin. Training sessions were led by Canva Verified Experts (CVE), Associate Professor Dr. Mohammad Tazli Azizan and Brandon Liau, who shared their expertise in educational technology and the integration of generative AI and Canva in teaching.

Throughout the workshop, participants were introduced to the principles of Cooperative Problem-Based Learning (CPBL), the practical use of Canva and generative AI, and methods for developing innovative teaching modules. All participants also served as research respondents, completing pre- and post-workshop surveys and, optionally, submitting brief written reflections or participating in interviews. All data collected is confidential and will be used solely for academic publication and the improvement of future faculty development programmes.

Feedback was highly positive, with participants emphasising the practical value and effectiveness of the training sessions. The organisers extend their appreciation to both facilitators and all participants for their commitment and active engagement
