Research Collaboration Discussion Between Centre for Mathematical Sciences and PETRONAS TECHNICAL SERVICES SDN. BHD.
On 2 September 2025, Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norhayati Rosli, hosted a discussion session with PETRONAS to explore potential areas of research collaboration.
The meeting brought together PETRONAS experts:
1. Mohamad Adnan Ayob, Principal Engineer (Head of Mechanical), PETRONAS IRSO East Coast
2. Muhammad Fadzli, Staff Engineer (Mechanical), PETRONAS Technical Services Sdn. Bhd. (PTSSB)
3. Ir. A Zamani Masnizam A Zawawi, Head (Mechanical Static), PETRONAS Technical Services Sdn. Bhd. (PTSSB)
4. Arrezqi Adib, Senior Mechanical Engineer, PETRONAS Technical Services Sdn. Bhd. (PTSSB)
During the session, both parties exchanged insights on their respective backgrounds and areas of expertise. PETRONAS representatives shared industrial perspectives and current technical challenges specifically in the predictive maintenance and projection modelling, while UMPSA, under the lead of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norhayati Rosli and supported by Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Noryanti Muhammad, presented its research capacity in predictive modelling under random effects, reliability modelling, and risk analysis.
The discussion also touched on potential collaboration opportunities and identified preliminary problem statements that could form the foundation for future joint research projects. Among the focus areas were predictive maintenance, optimisation of mechanical systems, and data-driven approaches to operational efficiency.
This early engagement is an important step toward aligning UMPSA’s research expertise with the needs of PETRONAS, ensuring that future collaboration delivers meaningful industrial impact.
The initial discussion sets the stage for more detailed research planning and the development of joint proposals that will strengthen academia-industry partnerships in advancing Malaysia’s energy and sustainability agenda.
