PSM UMPSA conducted knowledge sharing session by Prof Dr Sharidan Shafie UTM
The Research & Postgraduate Unit, Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), successfully organised a knowledge-sharing session titled “Peranan Penerbitan & Penyeliaan Pelajar Pascasiswazah: Meningkatkan Kualiti Penyelidikan dan Akademik 2025” on Wednesday, 30 April 2025. The session took place from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm at the Mathematics Support Centre (MSC), UMPSA Gambang.
The invited speaker was Professor Dr. Sharidan Shafie from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), a distinguished academician with extensive experience in postgraduate supervision and research publication.
Prof. Dr. Sharidan began his session by highlighting the significance of research, academic writing, and publication in shaping the professional development of university lecturers.
He emphasised that active engagement in scholarly work not only contributes to individual growth but also enhances the institution's academic standing. Developing strong research capabilities and consistently publishing in reputable journals were also highlighted as essential goals for academic staff.
In the second part of his session, Prof. Dr. Sharidan shifted his focus to the role of supervisors in postgraduate education. He discussed the importance of effective mentoring, providing research direction, and fostering a strong research culture among postgraduate students. The session also outlined best practices in supervision and strategies to boost research output through collaborative and structured guidance.
The Q&A session that followed saw active participation from attendees, reflecting a shared commitment among PSM members to strengthening supervision practices and improving overall research quality within the faculty.
