Industrial Talk “Solving Real-World Problems with Mathematics: A View from SSM”

Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) UMP has organised the Industrial Talk Master of Science (Industrial Mathematics) on 24th March 2023 entitled “Solving Real-World Problems with Mathematics: A View from SSM” in Microsoft Team platform.

Speaker of this sharing session is Mr. Wan Zarazillah Wan Abu Bakar who is Senior Manager of the Business Advisory and Statistics Section at Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM). He has worked with SSM for the past 16 years. As a Senior Manager, he manages the overall activities on statistics, business advisory, business research and Trustmark certification.

This sharing session start with overview on SSM, products and services offered by SSM, main statistics in SSM, data analytics used in SSM and some of the case studies in SSM.
The main applications of statistics and mathematics in SSM are comparing the effectiveness of two or three enforcement approach to the corporate communities, determining the income distribution of SSM employees, forecasting of company compliance rate, evaluation of survey of SSM projects, policies, implementations and other matters and monthly/quarterly/annually analysis of SSM financial and revenue.

Industrial sharing knowledge is part of the Master of Science (Industrial Mathematics) program is not limited to CMS staff and students only, it is open to all since the announcements of this program has been made through FacebookFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/umpmastermath. At the end, through this industrial talk, the students gain direct exposure from industrial expert regarding the use of mathematics in industry.
