Industrial Talk "Math Modelling and CFD: What Skills Do Employer Wants in Industry?""

Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) UMP has organised the Industrial Talk Master of Science (Industrial Mathematics) on 25th June 2022 entitled “Math Modelling and CFD: What Skills Do Employer Wants in Industry?” in Microsoft Team platform.

Speaker of this sharing session is Dr. Ahmad Syahid Fazwal who is one of the founder of the new cooling system for automotive or motorsports hybridization and electrification. That system is called “Rotor Cooling Technique” and the novel formulation used in quantify the performance of this cooling technique is called “Fazwal Number”. He has years of experience in a consultancy role within Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and currently he is CFD Engineer at Koch Technology Solutions, United Kingdom (UK).

In this session, he discussed mainly three important things that related to industry which are scenario or analogy situation of employees in industry, skills needed in industry and skills of the future. Highlighted skills that the employer wants in industry are hard skills and soft skills. Hard skills are specific competencies, skills, knowledge and abilities needed to perform a specific task or role, for example, Microsoft Office, interpreting data, financial planning, copywriting, troubleshooting, project management and spoken languages. While, soft skills are personality traits, social competencies and skills, knowledge and abilities used to perform interpersonal activities and unique tasks, for example, communication skills, timekeeping, critical thinking, leadership skills, motivation, ambition and negotiating. He also discussed the top 10 skills needed in industry.

Participants are not limited to CMS staff and students, but also delegates from outside of UMP. Industrial sharing knowledge is part of the Master of Science (Industrial Mathematics) program where the students can gain direct exposure from industrial expert regarding the current employability situation in industry and also indirectly expose to the use of mathematics in industry.
