Industrial Talk "Acing the Big Data Job An Insight on the Journey from Student to Industry and the Tools Used"

Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) UMP has organised the Data Analytic Industrial Talk on 14th April 2021 through Microsoft Team Online Platform. This industrial talk program was held in conjunction with a session with an industrial lecturer for Data Warehousing and Data Wrangling courses.

Titled as Acing the Big Data Job – An Insight on the Journey from Student to Industry and The Tools Used. Mr Tausef Rasheq Ahad, a data scientist from Enterprise Business Solution who have consulted multiple Fortune 500 companies on Big Data ETL and Data Streaming has been invited as a speaker.

In this valuable session, Mr Tausef shared the work cycle in data analysing which involve the extraction, transformation (data wrangling), data lake, data warehousing and data visualisation. The regex and filter/replace method have been mentioned in data wrangling. The speaker also briefly explained the tools used such as TALEND, a very useful tool for ETL and architecture.

Other than that, Mr Tausef also shared with the audience regarding his journey in the data science world. The speakers tell a brief history of his way to becoming a data scientist and debunked a few stigmas regarding ones to be in the data industry. According to the speaker’s experience, CGPA is not entirely out-weight ones’ credibility to be in data science. The tips “can do” attitude that definitely propels a person to make their paths in data science.

Pretty cool sharing and kind of an eye-opening experience to the audience.
