From Innovation to Publication: UMPSA’s Smart Agriculture Breakthrough
On August 5, 2024, a team from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), led by Dr. Chuan Zun Liang from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, participated in the International Innovation & Invention Competition 2024 (IIICe2024), organized by the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). The team consisted of four undergraduate students —Tham Ren Sheng (Faculty of Industrial Management), Tan Chek Cheng (Centre for Mathematical Sciences), Abraham Lim Bing Sern (Centre for Mathematical Sciences), and David Lau King Luen (Centre for Mathematical Sciences). They collaborated with Dr. Sai Chong Yeh, Chief Executive Officer of Ever AI Technologies, to compete in the Agriculture, Environmental, and Renewable Energy categories at the professional level.

During the competition, the team showcased their innovation project, "Smart Agriculture Economics and Engineering: Unveiling the Innovation Behind AI-Enhanced Rice Farming," through a poster presentation at Dewan Sultan Ibrahim, UTHM. Their project aligned with four United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): No Poverty (SDG 1), Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), and Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8). Their outstanding efforts earned them a silver medal, announced during the closing ceremony on the same day.
